Let me start by saying that caskets are expensive. At least, they are at most funeral homes. Even when viewed as pieces of furniture, they are expensive. A similarly crafted bookcase of the same type of wood usually cost quite a bit less than it’s matching casket. The reason for this high cost has a long history.
